What is Caption AI?

Caption AI is AI-driven guidance software for conducting cardiac ultrasounds. Caption AI includes Caption GuidanceTM and Caption InterpretationTM AutoEF software features:
  • Caption Guidance software, referenced as cardiac guidance on Vscan Air SL, is intended to assist medical professionals in the acquisition of cardiac ultrasound images.
  • Caption Interpretation Ejection Fraction (“AutoEF”) software automatically calculates the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) from one or any combination of these three views: Plax, AP2, and AP4 to assist the clinician with their evaluation.  The calculation increases in accuracy as each view is acquired.

What views can I acquire using Caption Guidance

There are 10 standard echo views available with guidance. These views can be customized in any combination that best fit users’ workflow or indications-based needs. Enable/disable views and edit existing protocols with ease.

What is AutoEF?

AutoEF is an AI interpretation of ejection fraction. Ejection fraction is a widely used measure by cardiologists to assess heart function. At the end of every study, if one or a combination of sufficient quality PLAX, AP4, or AP2 views are captured, AutoEF will produce an ejection fraction calculation and inform you whether the calculated ejection fraction falls within the normal range according to the ACEP guidelines.

Can I capture color Doppler images with Caption Guidance?

Color Doppler is accessible from within the Caption Guidance tool. However, Caption Guidance is not available to guide users to capture diagnostic-quality color Doppler images at this time. Images captured with color Doppler will be captured in free scan mode. Also note that because color Doppler images are captured in free scan, it is only to be done by those trained in cardiac ultrasound.

Which display devices can I use Caption Guidance on with my Vscan Air SL

Currently, Caption Guidance when used on Vscan Air SL is available on iOS and Android tablets larger than 7.3”.

The Caption AI offering includes the Cardiac Guidance™ and Caption interpretation Automated Ejection fraction software through Caption AI application supported on the Vscan Air SL on supported tablets, which provides real-time guidance that shows step-by-step, how to maneuver the probe to capture diagnostic-quality standard echocardiographic views. Once the relevant image(s) are acquired, a left ventricular ejection fraction is automatically calculated. Customizable indication-based or workflow-based protocols of cardiac ultrasound views are also available.

GE HealthCare will provide, at no additional charge, updates and/or upgrades to the Cardiac Guidance and Caption interpretation Automated Ejection fraction software when and if made available by GE HealthCare for download by customers, and only if they are provided at no additional charge to all GE HealthCare customers purchasing this option. This excludes, for example (and without limitation), any enabling hardware and separately licensable features or option codes.  If customer requires GE HealthCare personnel to install any such update and/or upgrade, standard service rates will apply.

Failure of customer to maintain system software and enabling hardware required for compatibility with Caption AI software may eliminate customer’s eligibility to receive upgrades. Customer’s failure to maintain system software and enabling hardware compatibility for Caption AI software is not grounds for non-payment by customer.

GE HealthCare may collect, prepare derivatives from and use non-personal data related to Products, Services and/or SaaS for such things as training/demonstration, research and development, and continuous product involvement. GE HealthCare will own the property rights resulting from such activity but will not sell the data or use it to identify customer without consent.

⁴ Caption AI annual subscription for Vscan Air customers.

The Caption AI offering includes the Cardiac Guidance and Caption interpretation Automated Ejection fraction software through Caption AI application supported on the Vscan Air SL on supported tablets, which provides real-time guidance that shows step-by-step, how to maneuver the probe to capture diagnostic-quality standard echocardiographic views. Once the relevant image(s) are acquired, a left ventricular ejection fraction is automatically calculated. Customizable indication-based or workflow-based protocols of cardiac ultrasound views are also available.

The subscription renews automatically for the same duration as the initial term. Subscriptions are not cancellable; however, either party may opt to not renew the subscription after the initial term or any subsequent renewal term by providing at least 60 days’ prior written notice to the other party prior to renewal. Price increases, if any, will be communicated by GE HealthCare in writing at least 60 days prior to renewal.

Failure of customer to maintain system software and enabling hardware required for compatibility with Caption AI software may eliminate customer’s eligibility to receive upgrades. Customer’s failure to maintain system software and enabling hardware compatibility for Caption AI software is not grounds for non-payment by customer.
