It should be used as early as possible to detect severe pathology. We want to find patients with relevant pathology, young or elderly, where we can make a difference and have an impact with early diagnosing and then with early treatment.

Clinical ultrasound is considered the fifth pillar of the physical examination. It is no longer an extension of the exam but a fully integrated, multi‑organ assessment tool. Being able to walk into the patient's room with a device that fits in your pocket and provide immediate answers to relevant clinical questions at the bedside adds significant value, avoiding unnecessary transfers and accelerating diagnosis.

FAQs

Vscan Air in emergency medicine

Does Vscan Air support the FAST protocol for trauma examinations?

Yes, Vscan Air supports the FAST protocol in trauma examinations. The hand-held device quickly displays free fluid in the abdomen and thorax and helps to detect life-threatening bleeding at an early stage. Immediate patient readiness accelerates time-critical decisions. Studies prove the benefit of prehospital FAST examinations in shortening the time to definitive care.

Is Vscan Air approved for emergency medical services and pre-hospital use?

Yes. Vscan Air is also verified for use outside healthcare facilities – for example, in rescue services, road and air rescue. The use is bound to the environmental conditions described in the user manual. The device is airworthy and ambulance-proof, drop-tested to military standards and waterproof. Please note that the probe is not certified for fixed mounting or charging in the vehicle.

Which Vscan Air model is best for the emergency room?

For the emergency room, the choice of model depends on the focus: The Vscan Air SL with sector probe and optional Caption AI is particularly suitable for cardiac, pulmonary and vascular assessment, while the Vscan Air CL with curved probe for FAST and abdominal questions. Both are drop-resistant and waterproof. In cardiologically oriented emergency rooms, the SL is usually superior.

How quickly is Vscan Air ready for use after switching on?

Vscan Air is quickly ready for use after connecting to the smartphone or tablet, as the wireless probe remains permanently connected to the display device via Smart Connect pairing. This means that the device is ready to scan almost immediately – crucial in time-critical emergency situations where every second counts. The intuitive app operation also shortens the time to the first picture.

Is Vscan Air robust enough for use in ambulances?

Yes, Vscan Air is robust enough for the ambulance. The probe is drop tested according to military standard MIL-STD-810G, IP67 waterproof and compatible with high-level disinfection as well as temperature resistant. Vscan Air is ambulance-ready and airworthy. Use outside healthcare facilities is limited to the conditions described in the user manual.
